Colour & Design – Made in Italy
Today, Laines du Nord has become a staple in our webshop. What else could we do when this Italian manufacturer keeps releasing irresistible sock yarns year after year—whether in cool striped designs or uniquely harmonious gradients? Ignore them?! No way! We always find room in our budget and space in our warehouse for these exceptional Italian yarns.
Riccardo Ferrero, the talented junior head of the company that was founded in 1978, is personally behind these stunning yarn designs. With a sense of color and design unparalleled in the yarn industry, he creates masterpieces with a distinctive signature. Take a look at
Infinity Sock and
Paint Gradient Sock to see exactly what I mean.
Luckily, Riccardo’s ingenuity is endless. And so, I’m delighted to share an open secret with you: In just a few weeks, new sock yarn collections featuring highly wearable stripes, gradients, and speckles will arrive in our shop. I’ve been knitting sample socks for these collections for WEEKS—yes, you guessed it right: there are QUITE A FEW!!! Get ready for autumn.
Solid is The New Colorful
The fact that Mr. Ferrero is introducing a solid-colored sock yarn this spring of 2025 makes me want to give him kisses! It truly feels like he has answered my prayers. I’ve long wished for the high-quality craftsmanship of self-patterning sock yarns to be available in pure, solid shades.
Classic All-Rounder
Ecco finalmente! The yarn we've all been waiting for: ‘Unisocks 4 Ply’. It is a fingering sock yarn with a yardage of 400 m per 100 g featuring a classic blend of 75% virgin wool and 25% polyamide, ensuring durability and a pleasant feel. I give this series five clouds on my
Softness Scale.
And why is it so exciting that "Laines du Nord" is now offering sock yarn in 20 distinct solid colors, even though there are already plenty of solid-colored sock yarns in the world and in our shop?
You're asking that rhetorically, right?! Because you know just as well as I do that the best results for custom-designed socks come when yarns of the same quality are combined.
Why? Because identical yardage, fiber blend, and production process ensure that the knitting experience, wearability, and wash performance harmonize perfectly.
Good Care Makes All The Difference
To ensure that your knitted creations remain beautiful for a long time, proper care is just as important as knitting. You can find detailed care tips for wool and other materials from me
in a separate article.
Get the Most Out of Unisocks 4 Ply
With Unisocks 4 Ply you can now create not only beautiful plain socks, like the light blue 'Lyne Socks' shown below, but also socks with colourwork patterns, stripes to suit your taste, or subtle or bright colour accents. In late summer, grey and beige will be added to the 20 starter colours as mélanges.
Plain Meets Vibrant
More beautiful options: Complement Laines du Nord's multi-coloured range (including those to come) with plain yarn on the cuffs, heels, toes or wherever you want to add a touch of colour. By the way, you can also knit plain socks with small accents using yarn (leftovers) from the multi-coloured range. I bet your imagination is running wild right now! Have fun planning your individual knitting projects.
Happy Knitting!
