A Perfect Match – Makes Perfect Wool
When the Merino family entered this woolly marriage, it brought a bridal dowry famous for fineness and softness. The Lincoln side wasn’t empty-hooved either – offering a dowry of its own: a medium-fine, gently crimped fleece with long, strong fibres.
From this fibre love story came the perfect match: a high-quality wool of medium thickness that’s softer than most in its category, elastic and voluminous thanks to its natural crimp, not too slippery, and highly durable due to its long fibres. In short: Corriedale – the natural all-rounder material for those knitting projects where Merino might be too delicate and your average wool too... let’s say “athletic” (which, between us, is just a polite way of saying scratchy). Incidentally, this new sheep “family” – pardon, breed – was named after Corriedale Station, the farm on New Zealand’s South Island where it all began.
A Classic in a New Guise
Chances are you’re already familiar with the Super Soxx line from Lang Yarns. Every year, the Swiss brand releases new self-patterning sock yarns based on their beloved Corriedale quality. Since the colourways haven’t quite swept me off my feet so far, we’ve only added the solid-colour version,
Super Soxx 6-ply, to our range. A fabulous yarn – I’m a genuine fan.
So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered that Lang Yarns is now offering this wonderful yarn in a finer, solid-colour version. Super Soxx 4-ply is a premium sock yarn made of 75% wool and 25% polyamide, with a yardage of 420 metres per 100 g ball. It comes in over 30 colours and earns a proud six-cloud rating on my
Softness Scale. Use this heavenly all-rounder for textured or stockinette socks, or add a splash of colourwork. Whether you’re knitting accessories from head to toe or garments for young and old – this yarn is made for a lively life and still feels beautifully soft on the skin.
Just keep in mind: even with its “superwash” finish, your stitches will only stay lovely for years to come if you follow certain rules.
Good Care Makes All The Difference
